Common questions

Frequently asked questions.

Everything you need to know about electrical work in Geelong — licensing, costs, services and more.

Do I need a licensed electrician for electrical work in Victoria?

Yes. In Victoria, all electrical work must be performed by a Registered Electrical Contractor (REC) or a licensed electrician working under one. This applies to everything from installing a powerpoint to replacing a switchboard. Unlicensed electrical work is illegal, dangerous, and will void your home insurance. Always check your electrician holds a current REC licence before work begins.

What's involved in a switchboard upgrade?

A switchboard upgrade replaces your old fuse box with a modern consumer mains board fitted with circuit breakers and safety switches. Old ceramic fuses can't handle modern power loads and present a serious fire risk. The upgrade typically takes half a day, and we'll also test your existing circuits and issue an electrical safety certificate on completion.

If your home has ceramic fuses, no RCD safety switches, or regularly trips the power — it's time to upgrade.

Can you install an EV charger at my home or business?

Yes — we install EV charging stations for both homes and businesses across Geelong. We assess your existing electrical capacity, recommend the right charger for your vehicle and usage, and install a dedicated circuit to handle the load safely. Most home EV charger installations are completed in a single day.

We work with all major EV charging brands and all makes of electric vehicle.

What areas do you service around Geelong?

We're based in Geelong and service the greater Geelong region including Geelong CBD, Belmont, Newtown, Highton, Leopold, Ocean Grove, Barwon Heads, Torquay, Surf Coast, Lara, Corio, Norlane and surrounding areas.

Not sure if we cover your area? Give us a call and we'll let you know.

How much does electrical work cost?

Costs vary depending on the scope of work. We always provide upfront, fixed quotes before any work begins — so there are no surprises on the invoice. For smaller jobs we can often give you a price over the phone; for larger projects we'll do a site visit first.

We believe in fair, transparent pricing. No hidden call-out fees, no inflated hourly rates, no upselling you work you don't need.

Do you handle electrical work for renovations and new builds?

Absolutely. We regularly work alongside builders, architects and project managers on new residential and commercial builds, as well as full home renovations. We can manage the electrical component from rough-in to fit-off, and we're used to working to construction timelines.

Get in touch early in your project and we can give you a full quote and schedule accordingly.

What is testing and tagging, and does my business need it?

Testing and tagging is the inspection and testing of portable electrical appliances to ensure they're safe to use. It's a legal requirement in most Australian workplaces under WHS regulations, with inspection intervals depending on the type of environment (construction, office, hospitality etc.).

We provide testing and tagging services for commercial and industrial clients across Geelong — contact us to schedule a site visit.

What should I do in an electrical emergency?

If you smell burning, see sparks, have a complete power failure, or suspect a fault — switch off your main power at the switchboard if it's safe to do so, and call us immediately. Do not attempt to investigate or repair the fault yourself.

For life-threatening emergencies involving electrical hazards, call 000 first, then call us.

Can you do commercial electrical fit-outs?

Yes. We handle commercial electrical fit-outs for offices, retail spaces, restaurants, warehouses and other commercial premises. This includes power distribution, lighting design, data cabling, switchboard installation, emergency and exit lighting, and compliance certification.

We work directly with business owners and project managers, and can provide a detailed scope and schedule on request.

How do I know if my home wiring needs replacing?

Signs your wiring may need attention include: frequently tripping breakers, flickering lights, warm or discoloured power points, burning smell near outlets, or a home built before 1990 that hasn't been rewired. Older wiring (TPS/rubber-insulated) can degrade over time and become a fire hazard.

We offer inspection and assessment services — we'll give you an honest appraisal and only recommend work that's actually needed.
